Garmin were founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min Kao, it was set up as a parent company for a group of other smaller companies. They are a worldwide brand and specialize in products such as consumer, aviation and marine technologies.
Garmin have been introducing aviation instruments and aviation GPS systems since 1991 when they launched the GPS-100AVD, it was a great introduction for Garmin and was widely accepted in the aviation industry. The Garmin Avionics range continued to grow in success and in reputation over the next few years; in 1994 the GPS-155 was the first airplane GPS receiver to be accredited with a FAA certification, they took this success and used it as a stepping stone to create their first integrated aviation GPS receiver and communicator in 1998. Garmin continued to make waves in the avionics market by acquiring UPS Aviation Technologies in 2003. With the help of their avionics department releasing popular airplane GPS receivers and other instruments, Garmin had a net income of just over 855 million dollars. The Garmin Aviation range is sure to continue developing and manufacturing quality aviation GPS systems at competitive pricing as the company goes from strength to strength.
