There is no equation between Katrina and me: Bipasha

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Looks like, Bollywood’s sexy siren Bipasha Basu is not quite pleased with the idea of having girl pals in B-town and ends up bruising her relations with most of them. Although, it was heard the Lara and Bipasha were best buddies once upon a time. Well, whatever happened to that!

The catfight with Kareena on sets of Bipasha’s debut flick, ‘Ajnabee’ was the favourite tea-time gossip. And, the latest contender for Bips’ ‘enemy’ tiara is none other than her beau, John Abraham’s new found ‘good friend’ Katrina Kaif!

The two actresses don’t get along too well, but we were certainly expecting things to ice down with John singing all praises for his ‘New York’ co-star Katrina. Whatever happens, Bips apparently has no plans of putting an end to the ‘Kat’-fight anytime soon.

In an interview to a tabloid Bipasha said, “I don’t speak to Katrina because of the vibes we share. I get no vibe from her, so I am going to behave in the same fashion. I am not here to make friends. There is no catfight, we work together and it is professional but we don’t speak. I can’t dissect the reasons but I am like this. If you show me you are a friendly, fun co-star, I will behave in the same fashion. There is no equation between Katrina and me, there’s no animosity either. To each his own is what I say”.

Well, not that all this really bothers Katrina, she has an endless list of ‘good friends’ in her kitty, just that it’s only men!

Miranda Kerr, Orlando Bloom mix work with pleasure

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Aussie model Miranda Kerr and her beau actor Orlando Bloom were spotted enjoying themselves while shooting for Victoria’s Secret catalogue.

The two, who are rumoured to be engaged, had flown down to the Rosewood Little Dix Bay resort on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, reports the New York Post.

When there was no work for Kerr, they were seen frolicking on the beach, playing in the water and doing yoga at the resort’s spa.

Meanwhile, Kerr had earlier revealed that she would like to do a job with more substance.

She also stated that she was reluctant about becoming a model and was more passionate about writing.

U2, Coldplay, Killers help launch digital magazine

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Some of the biggest names in music are contributing exclusive songs to RED(WIRE), a digital music magazine that launches on World AIDS Day (December 1).

U2, Coldplay, the Killers, the Dixie Chicks, John Legend, R.E.M. and Bob Dylan are on board for the initiative, which is an outgrowth of the Bono-reared activist organization called (RED). All proceeds from subscriptions will benefit HIV-infected people in Africa; MSN.com will host a kickoff party December 1.

For $5, users will receive a new issue of RED(WIRE) every Wednesday, featuring an exclusive song from a major musician, a song from a performer who (RED) aims to showcase, a multimedia piece that could encompass video or photography and a look at how proceeds are benefiting Africans in need. The materials will be downloaded to a custom player and automatically loaded into iTunes.

Users can send two free issues to friends, and will be rewarded if they join RED(WIRE).

“Artists are already saying, ‘I want to give you a track for those people who brought friends in,’” (RED)WIRE founder Don MacKinnon told Billboard.com. “That’s the biggest idea: using social networking to actually change the world in a unique way.”

U2’s track was recorded just last Wednesday, while the Killers, Elton John and the Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant teamed up for the Christmas song “Joseph, Better You Than Me,” which MacKinnon describes as “like a power ballad.” This is the third year in a row that the Killers have penned a holiday song and donated proceeds to (RED).

Meanwhile, John Legend’s take on Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” finds him eschewing piano for a stripped-down arrangement with guitar, bass and backing vocalists, according to MacKinnon.

Also on tap is the first new Dixie Chicks song since the group’s Grammy sweep in 2007, “Lucky One,” and Elvis Costello and the Police jamming on “Watching the Detectives” and “Walking on the Moon,” taped during Costello’s new Sundance Channel show, “Spectacle.” Additional (RED)WIRE offerings will be announced in the coming weeks.

MacKinnon is particularly enthused about the creative directions open to (RED)WIRE, especially with such high-profile artist participation.

“I had a meeting with Jay-Z, and he wants to talk about artists to be featured in that spotlight slot,” he said. “Big artists may curate an issue. The whole goal was to create a creative platform. When somebody says, ‘I do all this photography and I want to put it in as an extra,’ that’s when I go, this is going to be really cool.”

Boy George goes on trial for false imprisonment, EU

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

A Norwegian escort told a court Monday that Boy George manacled him to a bedroom wall and beat him with a metal chain after accusing him of hacking into his computer. The former Culture Club singer is on trial for the false imprisonment of 29-year-old Audun Carlsen.

The 47-year-old singer, who is standing trial under his real name, George O’Dowd, denies the charge. Carlsen told London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court that he met the singer through a Web site and went to his London home for a naked photo shoot.

After the encounter Boy George sent a series e-mails accusing Carlsen of hacking into his computer, but Carlsen nonetheless agreed to return for a second photo session several weeks later in April 2007. Carlsen told the jury that when he arrived Boy George and another man held him down and beat him before the singer handcuffed him to a hook in the bedroom wall.

“George was slapping me and beating me and punching me and screaming things,” Carlsen said. Carlsen said he was able to escape by unscrewing the hook and running for the door.

“I took a bit of time getting the door open and he had a metal chain that he was hitting me with,” Carlsen said. Carlsen said he ran into the street clad only in his underwear.

The court was shown photographs of red welts on Carlsen’s head and injuries to his arm which he said had been inflicted during the attack. Boy George’s androgynous image and powerful voice made him an 80s icon, and gave Culture Club hits including “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?” But the singer struggled for years with drug problems.

In 2006 he was ordered to do community service with New York City’s Department of Sanitation after pleading guilty to false reporting of an incident. He called police with a false report of a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment, and the responding officers found cocaine inside.

When Josh Brolin licked co-star’s hairy underarm!

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Josh Brolin revealed that for acting sake he has done many things, even licking the hairy underarm of his co-star during a love scene.

Brolin admits to being put off when, doing a love scene with co-star Patricia Arquette in “Flirting With Disaster”, he had to lick her underarm and in the process encountered a thick tuft of hair.

“I had, like, a severe reaction. I said, ‘No!’” the New York Post quoted Brolin as telling Interview.

But he still went ahead with the scene, which had to be redone, as it looked too disgusting.

“We saw the footage, and it was so disgusting that [director David Russell] said, ‘We can’t have the hair. Patricia has to shave the hair’,” he said.

“So what you see in the film is the third attempt to make the scene playable,” he added.

Britney Spears driver’s license trial nears end

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Britney Spears avoided court on Thursday, but in her absence her attorney told jurors the pop star calls Louisiana home and should be cleared of a charge of driving without a California license.

Spears’ attorney, J. Michael Flanagan, told a Los Angeles jury that the case turned on defining the singer’s real home.

“She was residing in California — I’m not trying to get tricky with the terminology — but ‘resident’ has a different definition,” Flanagan told jurors.

Prosecutors from the city of Los Angeles argued that Spears, 26, lived in California since May 2006. They say Spears should have had a license from the state in August 2007, when she hit another car in a Los Angeles parking lot while being trailed by photographers.

Jamie Spears, the pop star’s father, testified that his daughter planned to move home to Louisiana as soon as a custody dispute over her two children is settled.

Spears’ father took over his daughter’s business and personal affairs in February after she was twice taken to Los Angeles-area hospitals and held for psychiatric evaluations.

Spears has not attended the trial, which is her right because she is accused of a misdemeanor and not a more serious felony charge.

The case went to trial after negotiations failed over a plea bargain that would have avoided a trial.

Spears could face a maximum six months in jail if convicted but is more likely to get a fine and probation.

Rajnikant again defers political career

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Refusing to acknowledge the political ‘party’ formed by a group of his fans last week, Tamil superstar Rajnikant Monday said no one could ‘force’ him to enter politics.

He also warned of legal action against people using his name for political gains.

‘While no one can stop me from entering the political arena, nobody can force me to do so as well. Legal action will be initiated against those who use my name for political ends,’ the actor said in a statement faxed to media offices.

He, however, said his fans were free to follow political parties of their choice.

This is the third time that the icon has turned down requests from fans to carve out a political career.

While his refusal in 1996 had seen his popularity zoom, it suffered a setback when he did the same five years later.

A fledgling group of his fans’ associations in Coimbatore had announced the formation of a ‘party’ a few days ago and expressed hope that the actor and his followers would endorse it.

Rajnikant’s announcement is seen as a snub to the move.

Rajnikant cut short his shooting schedule in the US for his forthcoming venture ‘Robot’ earlier this month to galvanise his fan clubs following the flop of his latest film ‘Kuselan’.
