How do I identify “genuine” silverware?
I have heard that thrift stores sometimes sell sterling silverware with their stainless steel silverware. How can I recognize genuine silver silverware?

I doubt seriously you’ll find silver flatware in thrift stores since a single spoon can cost $35 and up. Silver plate is possible.
You look for a manufactuer name on the back of the spoons and knives. Hopefully it is a name you recognize. Even then some of the big names may have made silver plate flatware, so be careful. Have the number 950 or 980 on the back also helps as that indicates sterling.

You can look for a stamp on the back of the item that indicates sterling. I have noticed that silver has a whiter look to it that the chrome look of stainless too.
